OLDS The entire community of Olds is under a temporary Level 2 water restriction Thursday as scheduled upgrades to one of the municipality’s reservoirs is undertaken.

Town of Olds officials gave the community forewarning earlier this week.

The April 3 restriction, expected to last 24 hours, is being implemented to help conserve water during scheduled upgrades to the municipality's south reservoir.

The upgrades are aimed at ensuring long-term system reliability and efficiency, notes the Town of Olds in a public notice issued Monday.

“The entire town will be affected as we operate with reduced storage capacity,” the notice says.

“While the north reservoir remains fully operational and the south reservoir will function intermittently during maintenance, we ask all residents to conserve water to help maintain supply and system pressure.”

Effective 7 a.m. April 3, the following residential uses of water are not allowed:

• landscape watering: lawns, gardens, trees, shrubs;

• filling swimming pools and spas;

• filling fountains and other water features;

• washing vehicles, homes, driveways, windows, patios, paths, boats, etc.;

• use of water toys; and

• outdoor ice or snow making.

Effective 7 a.m. April 3, the following non-residential uses of water are not allowed:

• lawn, green space, and sports field watering; and

• washing of driveways, paths, patios, windows, etc.

Town officials say water won’t be shut off completely, but the water pressure may be lower than usual.

It says tap water will still be safe to drink.

As a result of the restrictions, water pressure may be lower than usual for appliances that use water, like dishwashers, washing machines and irrigation systems. It’s suggested that their use be postponed if possible.

“We appreciate your cooperation in following these restrictions to ensure essential water use is maintained,” the notice says.
