OLDS — Longtime Olds and area volunteer Rita Thompson has received a King Charles III Coronation Medal.

It was presented to her by Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA and speaker of the House Nathan Cooper.

A spokesperson for his office says that was the only King Charles III Coronation Medal he has given out.

Cooper’s office says the medal was presented to Thompson for “her steadfast dedication to her community and province through her constant efforts to raise awareness and implement positive change.”

Over the decades, Thompson has been involved in many volunteer activities. The Kiwanis Club of Olds, Olds & District Chamber of Commerce, the Age Friendly Committee and Uptowne Olds are just some of them.

The medals are awarded to people who have “made significant contributions to the country or made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.”
