Ringette captain from Water Valley leads team to national title in Ottawa

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Water Valley’s Dylan Pighin, 18, is team captain of the Zone 2 Blaze 19AA ringette team that recently won the national title at the Canadian Ringette Championships in Ottawa on April 5.

Opening ceremonies were held on March 30, and game play took place from March 31 to April 5. 

The Zone 2 Blaze U19AA team went undefeated in eight games.

The squad played against Saskatoon Blazers, Team New Brunswick, Quebec Cyclones, Team Manitoba & Eastern Ontario in the round robin.

The then faced off against team New Brunswick in the quarter final, Riv Sud from Quebec in the semi final, and the Quebec Cyclones in the gold medal final, winning by a 6 to 2 score.

Pighin won hardest shot – at 74 miles per hour – at the skills competition, and was named athlete of the game in the gold medal game.
