OLDS — Seven members of the Imagine Gymnastics Club received medals during a competition they hosted in Olds.

The Hay City Classic was held March 8-9 at the Community Learning Campus gym.

The Imagine Gymnastics Club has locations in Olds and Carstairs.

Ten-year-old Brynlee Lunde won gold. Isla Falle, 9, Myla Denby, 13, Mykah Dolinski, 9, and Arwynn Penner, 9, each received silver. Kayden Cunningham, 7 and Meera Osborne, also 7, each obtained bronze medals.

Imagine coach Kia Waiting says those results are pretty good, considering the girls were rather distracted, because they had to spend time setting up and taking down the equipment for the competition.

Also, some girls served as judges for the event.

“The whole group, I think performed greatly with the circumstances that we’ve been in, having to help out all weekend, I think they performed great,” Waiting said during an interview with the Albertan.

And quite a set-up and takedown it was.

The club notes that the Hay City Classic has grown from more than 400 athletes representing 20 clubs competing in six sessions over two days in 2022 to more than 700 athletes from 26 clubs, competing in 12 sessions over three days the last couple of years.

Waiting noted that 16 athletes participated in the Fun Meet level, a chance to demonstrate the skills they’ve learned.
