Warm weather: High temperature record broken in Sundre area Monday

Four Alberta locales break May 26 temperature records, with one set more than 140 years ago

SUNDRE – The Sundre area was one of four places in Alberta to break high temperature records on Monday.

In a weather summary issued Tuesday, Environment and Climate Change Canada noted the Sundre area recorded a new, record-high temperature for May 26.

The temperature hit 27.7 degrees Celsius (C) Monday at the Sundre Airport. The previous record for the day of 22.7 C was set in 2018.

Weather records for the area have been kept since 1993.

The following other Alberta areas set a daily maximum temperature record on Monday, May 26:

• Fort Chipewyan area - New record of 32.7 C. Old record of 32.0 C set in 1986. Records in this area have been kept since 1883.

• Mildred Lake area - New record of 31.8 C. Old record of 28.7 C set in 1981. Records in this area have been kept since 1965.

• Milk River area - New record of 26.8 C. Old record of 26.4 C set in 1998. Records in this area have been kept since 1994.

The federal agency notes that these temperature records have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record.
