SUNDRE – The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223 in Sundre recognized on June 2 five local students whose submissions to the 2024 Legion National Youth Remembrance Contest literary and poster competition earned them first, second and third place awards.
Sundre Legion president Jim Meitl said their entries were first submitted at the district level, putting their projects in a pool of contenders alongside 25 other legions, before going up to the command district.
According to the Royal Canadian Legion’s official website, the contest is conducted in coordination with the Legion National Foundation as well as schools across the country.
The intent is to invite Canadian youth and children to honour Canada’s veterans while fostering the tradition of Remembrance through visual art, writing, and video.
