MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – An emergency management functional exercise involving a simulated train derailment will be held south of Olds on June 5, officials said.
The exercise will involve Mountain View Regional Emergency Management Agency, which includes the Town of Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs, Sundre, the Village of Cremona and Mountain View County.
The event will help members to practise and refine emergency response plans.
“Thanks to an Alberta Community Partnership grant, this year’s exercise will simulate a train derailment south of Olds, involving all participating emergency agencies,” Mountain View County said in a May 26 posting on its website.
“While you may observe emergency vehicles and personnel in the area, and in the Town of Didsbury, please be assured that this is a controlled exercise and not a real incident.”
The exercises are held in the county every four years.
