Carstairs RCMP enhanced police officer kept busy

CARSTAIRS – Hundreds of local students have attended events with the Carstairs enhanced policing RCMP officer so far in 2025, according to a report presented to councillors during the recent council meeting.

More than three hundreds students attended a Mothers Against Drunk Driving presentation in January, one hundred students attended science fairs in February, and more than 300 students attended the crosswalk safety event at Carstairs Elementary school in March.

The enhanced policing officer conducted 108 proactive patrols during the January-March quarter. 

In the area of crime prevention, the officer attended and assisted with a search warrant on a residence in Carstairs.

“The months-long investigation lead by Didsbury RCMP detachment with assistance from the Airdrie detachment crime reduction unit and federal units resulted in the seizure of cannabis marijuana, shatter, cocaine, and production equipment,” the report states. 

“This search warrant spanned over two days and the arrest of an adult male. There were 12 domestic violence occurrences in the Town of Carstairs, two of which resulted in criminal charges.”

Six criminal investigations were conducted for fail to comply, assault, harassing communication, assault with a weapon, assault with a weapon, and failing to comply, resulting in six adult males being charged.

There were a total of 35 person crimes reported in the entire Didsbury RCMP detachment area during the quarter, including 19 assaults.

There are 50 property crimes reported, including 12 for theft under $5,000 and 13 for fraud.

Council accepted the RCMP report as information.
