I and my cousins never got to know our grandmother because she was shot and killed by her 12 year-old son loading a .22 rifle in the kitchen without knowledgeable supervision of his action. He later took his own life from guilt apparently, so an uncle I never got to know as well.
This change in the legislation regarding hunting to allow 12-year-olds to possess and use firearms unsupervised is insane and without adequate or reasonable consideration of the potential possible outcomes.
Can a 12 year-old get a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) certificate as well? No children or adults should be allowed to use firearms without certification of adequate training in that activity.
Even so all non-adults should require appropriate supervision with the use of firearms. Life is too short to put it at risk so carelessly.
Our government officials need to do a re-think on this and do what's right for the safety of all Albertans, including the 12 year-olds.
