All of us have the expectation that our Alberta government will listen to us and do what is best for the population it governs.
Take for example the issue of mining on the eastern slopes of the Alberta Rockies.
Experience and common sense says that for the long run this mining for coal will harm the mountains, the foothills, ranching, water and tourism among other things. It is almost totally only a benefit for the Australian billionaire’s company which would do the mining.
We get the damage and the billionaire and the company get the benefit.
Permission for this mining has been repeatedly withdrawn by the Alberta government. This has been in reaction to overwhelming opposition. For what possible reason is it now allowed?
But here is our dilemma, what can be done about a government that will not listen and will not protect the foothills?
The provincial government is not meeting our expectation that it will act for the common good of those who elected them and for the population in general.
