A proposed kennel in the Fallentimber area will be for boarding and grooming only, with a maximum of four dogs on site at any given time.

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County's municipal planning commission (MPC) has approved a development permit application for a dog kennel in the Fallentimber area.

The approval came by way of motion at a recent commission meeting.

The property involved is located at the dead-end of Range Road (Rge. Rd.) 53 about one kilometre north of Township Road (Twp. Rd.) 302, at NE 16-30-5-5.

The approval is for a kennel, commercial - boarding and grooming, and sign on a 7.19 acre agricultural parcel.

The proposed kennel will be for boarding and grooming only, with a maximum of four dogs on site at any given time, including personal dogs, administration said in a briefing note to the council.

“Boarding will occur within the dwelling, and grooming will take place within the attached garage. Outdoor excise within the fenced yard will be supervised at all time, and the dogs will be housed indoors at night, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.,” administration said in a briefing note to the commission.

“The applicants, who live on site, will be the only operators/employees. Anticipated client visits to the property will be two per day, consisting of the same client dropping off and picking up their dogs.”

As part of the application, the applicant undertook a community consultation regarding the proposal within half a mile of the property, visiting the properties of 11 adjacent landowners and providing a written letter of intent.

“No concerns of objections were received during the applicant’s community consultation.”

During the county’s separate circulation of the application, one objection later was received from an adjacent landowner situated north of the parent parcel of the subject property, members heard.

“The letter expressed concerns with the maximum number of dogs permitted on site, and requested that the hours of operation be restricted to weekdays only.”

The approved application comes with a number of conditions, including that dogs will not be permitted to run free off the property, no breeding is permitted, and the dogs shall not be allowed outside without supervision, and they must be housing indoors during the night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
