MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a snowfall warning Tuesday for a swath of Alberta that included Mountain View County and nearby urban centres.
Heavy snowfall is expected in parts of the province Tuesday night, the federal agency’s 1:07 p.m. April 1 weather alert update for the area said.
Included in the warning was Mountauin View County near Sundre, Cremona, Water Valley Carstairs, Didsbury and Olds along with locations in the neighbouring municipalities including Cleawater County, Rocky View County and Kneehill County.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” the federal agency warned.
It expected precipitation to begin as a rain/snow mix Tuesday afternoon before changing to heavy snow in the evening,
General amounts of five to 10 centimetres (cm) of snow was expected, but the federal agency said in a few localities upwards of 15 cm is possible.
“Snowfall amounts will be highly variable throughout the region,” the warning said.
Snowfall is expected to end by Wednesday morning.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” noted the federal agency, advising to take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
