RED DEER COUNTY – A central Alberta steer wrestler ended his 2025 Calgary Stampede run Sunday without advancing to Showdown Sunday.

Landon Beardsworth, from Red Deer County near Innisfail, was one of 30 bull-doggers trying to get earn a spot at the steer wrestling finals to be held Sunday, July 13.

As one of 10 Pool A contestants, he had three go-arounds between Friday and Sunday.

Pool B now goes Monday to Wednesday and Pool C from Thursday to Saturday.

Participants with the three best aggregate money totals after the three days of pool action earn berths into Showdown Sunday for a chance to win $50,000.

Beardsworth finished nearly middle of the pack on Sunday with aggregate winnings of $4,500.

He scored a no-time in his first performance on Friday, a 6.1-second run on Saturday that again earned him no prize money and a 4.9-second run on Sunday that earned him $4,500.

Moving on to Showdown Sunday from Pool A are Provost’s Scott Guenthner ($18,000), Kyle Irwin of Robertsdale, Florida ($10,500) and Justin Shaffer of Hico, Texas ($10,250).
