BANFF – A youth skier was flown to hospital in “serious and potentially life-threatening condition” on Sunday afternoon (March 30) following a skiing accident in Banff National Park.

Banff EMS was called to Sunshine Village at approximately 2:20 p.m., where they assumed care of a male teenager after he was brought down the ski hill by patrol.

Paramedics treated the teen while waiting for the arrival of STARS air ambulance, said Stuart Brideaux, a public education officer for Alberta Health Services, in an email.

“The patient was subsequently flown to Foothills Medical Centre [in Calgary] in serious and potentially life-threatening condition,” Brideaux said.

An update on the injured skier is not available at this time.
