DIDSBURY - People’s Party of Canada (PPC) leader Maxime Bernier and Ponoka-Didsbury riding PPC candidate Larry Gratton met with supporters in Didsbury on Wednesday.

Bernier was touring the new riding, speaking with residents and distributing party literature. His April 16 afternoon stopover in Didsbury was at Daphne's Market, with about 50 people in attendance.

Asked by the Albertan what he believes local residents want to see from their member of Parliament, Bernier said, “The MPs must work for us and they are not doing that right now. The big challenge that we have in this country is mass immigration and the Conservatives and the Liberals won’t speak about that, won’t do anything about that.

“We must end mass immigration. We must have a moratorium on mass immigration and start the deportation of all illegals who are in our country.”

Bernier also said a PPC government would defund the CBC and Radio-Canada.

The new Ponoka-Didsbury riding also includes Olds, Bowden, Innisfail and parts of Mountain View and Red Deer counties along with Lacombe, Bentley, Blackfalds, Eckville, Ponoka, Rimbey, Sylvan Lake, Alix, Clive, Birchcliff, Gull Lake, Half Moon Bay, Jarvis Bay, Norglenwold, Parkland Beach and Sunbreaker Cove, Lacombe County and parts of Ponoka County.

The federal election is being held April 28.
